Slovak IBAN consists of 24 alphanumeric characters. The first two characters represent the country code (SK), the next two represent check digits, followed by the four-digit bank code (the bank code identifies a specific payment service provider, e.g. the NBS code is 0720). The IBAN further consists of the account prefix and the basic account number (the so-called national part of the IBAN).

tAccording to EBS204, each country of the European Community is obliged to determine the national length and structure of the IBAN by specifying the positions where the bank code (identification code), prefix and basic account number are. The national IBAN account number format has a fixed length. The length of the IBAN is different in individual EU countries, depending on the length of the national part of the IBAN. For example, in the case of France, the IBAN has 27 characters, in the case of Germany 22, Belgium 16 and Slovakia 24 characters.
